Cheer Songs 01: Rouse Up

ROUSE UP

Rouse up, rouse up young starians all
Through out the land our voice resound
It's Tuanku Abdul Rahman's call
To win for him our youth our town

Chorus:
Stand steadfast Starians for your rights
Your word, your dignity, your pride
Come march along we will conquer all the world
Young starians side by side

To this glorious school we give
Our pledge of loyalty and love
Our teachers are always in our our heart
Behold the Golden Age of STAR!!

*Chorus again:
Stand steadfast Starians for your rights
Your word, your dignity, your pride
Come march along we will conquer all the world
Young starians side by side

Notes:
This song has a very wonderful English melody to it. Giving us the rustic majestic feeling in the stomach. When sung together, it strengthens our deep passion for the alma mater. Unlike other cheer songs, Rouse Up is sung without clapping, depending solely on the melody to render the surroundings.

Kings of Red House 1990

From Black House, far yet so close, separated across the old hockey field infront of the Dining Hall, being the sentinel to Sourthern Houses was the rustic Red House. In their courtyard were the famous crickette training net, the tennis lawns, and a basketball court for their tending. And Red House shared the old hockey field with the Blackies as their backyard. Red House was ruled with deep tradition passed from one Kings to another. It was rumoured that the High Council culture (as it was later known) was originated from the Red House traditions. Life in Red was bound by their fierce pride to their house and upheld with strict rules by every batch Kings of Red House. It is hereby with due respect that I mentioned the following names that made it to the crown of the Red House in 1990:-

THE KINGS OF RED HOUSE 1990
... the Red Red Wine.
  1. Basharuddin b. Sharif @ Basha (the House Captain)
  2. Kamarul Bahrin b. Baharudin @ Pollan (the Vice Captain)
  3. Ahmad Ali Munawir b. Saharani @ Nawir
  4. Ahmad Kamaruddin b. Hj Mokhtar @ Yamat Kamayudin (the Brunei boy)

  13. Mohd Zaidi b. Ismail @ Zaidi Red
  14. Rahiman b. Abd Hadi @ Ime'
  15. Reza Azri b. Abdul Rahman @ Kodok
  16. Rozaimi b. Abdul Mutalib @ Chunut
  17. Syed Mahathir b. Syed Mohd AlAttas @ Matiau
  18. Syed Syazli b. Syed Abdul Rashid @ Chicken
  19. Zulkhairy b. Ibrahim @ Zul Ghairah

Kings of Black House 1990

Neighbour to the Blue House, across the Takraw Court, there loomed the great Black House. A very serene location, nearest to the Dining Hall and with the old hockey field as their backyard. Black House had been governed by notorious senior-Kings prior to 1990 and it is hereby with great pride that I mentioned the following names that made it to the crown of the Black House in 1990:-

THE KINGS OF BLACK HOUSE 1990
... the Blakk Paradise
  1. Salehuddin b. Mustapha @ Saleh (the House Captain)
  2. Zaimizi b. Hamdani @ Mizi (the Vice House Captain)
  3. Ahmad Affendi b. Zainuddin @ Lalat
  4. Ahmad Nizam b. Nordin @ Koda No-Identiti
  5. Ahmad Shahrir b. Azmi @ ASBA
  6. Anas Nazsarman b. Ahmad Nazri @ Anas
  7. Asfarizul b. Othman @ Asfa
  8. Faridul Masyhur b. Farinordin @ Ma Pitoyz
  9. Firdaus b. Tupari @ Fio
  10. Gunawan b. Mohd Safian @ Gun
  11. Iskandar Eden @ Eden
  12. Izzad b. Ishak @ Izzad
  13. Kaharuddin b. Hj. Osman @ Kahar
  14. Mohd Misron b. Omar @ Misron Mat Goyang
  15. Mohd Norhisyam b. Hj Mohd Yusof @ Syam Anjing
  16. Osman Affendi b. Mohd Salleh @ Manberg
  17. Rizal b. Mohd Hafdzi @ Jitut "Rock"
  18. Shahmar b. Kamaruddin @ Defender of Sitiawan
  19. Suryami Izrul Akmal b. Tajuddin @ Ma Stone
  20. Zuri b. Mohd Zaid @ Zuri
There were actually 21 of them in the Black House, but along the years prior to 1990, we lost...
  1. Mohd Hafiz b. Mohd Hatta @ Apit PATA who exited STAR after SRP 1988.
Black House boys called themselves Blackies that year and their house was named the Blakk Paradise, much in tone to their easy going nature. They loved music. Despite their rather low profile atmosphere, Blackies undoubtedly became an important components in the politics of the batch.

It was rumoured that Blackies never wallop their juniors that year, since it was a tradition that nobody wallop without the House Captain consent. With Saleh as the House Captain, Blackies that year were restrained and became known as the most relaxed and easy going house, much to the good of their juniors... but strangely, this later raised questions and eyebrows when Gun was attacked during our SPM result week in 1991.

More shall be told on that, but as for now, let me tell you about the Red House.

Kings of Blue House 1990

Next to my old Green House in 1990, with an open-air gymnasium separating us (now no more...), was the Blue House who called themselves the Royal Blue 1990. They had their own history of which I better consult them first before telling. As for now, I take it as my duty to put it to the records of the following boys that made it to the crown of the Royal Blue House in 1990. Hence here were the names as I remember them back in 1990:-

THE KINGS OF BLUE HOUSE 1990
... the Royal Blue.
  1. Syazali b. Shaari @ Lipan (House Captain -but he did not reside in Kiub Tengah)
  2. Fadzli b. Salleh (Assistant House Captain -but this guy resided in Kiub Tengah, why?)
  3. Alias b. Ghazali @ Punk (Deputy Headboy)
  4. Adlan Zulkarnain b. Mustafa @ Tonel
  5. Ahmad Nurul Ihsan b. Hj Ahmad Noorhani @ Nurul
  6. Anwar b. Hassan @ John Frederick Fuyun (related to Fizrudin Hassan)
  7. Azran b. Adzmi
  8. Badrul Hisham b. Ahmad @ Bad Gemuk
  9. Khairil Azman Nazli b. Rashid @ Manjit
  10. Khairul Fauzi b. Taib @ Bawang
  11. Megat Muzaffar b. Abdul Mutalib @ Megatron
  12. Mohd Ashrof b. Abd Rahim
  13. Mohd Asrol b. Sulaiman @ Mr. Oh
  14. Muhammad Iswan b. Sufian @ Steng
  15. Nor Hisham b. Mohd Hashim @ Noure Gigi
  16. Romie b. Rosman
  17. Sahidi b. Mohamad @ Juboq
  18. Syamsul Azmar b. Shamsuddin (our Perintis' Editor)
  19. Shamsul Bahrin b. Abd Azizi @ Mat Gila
  20. Zaharin b. Yusoff @ Mat Yan
  21. Zaidi b. Saulani
There were actually 22 of them in the Blue House, but along the years prior to 1990, we lost...
  1. Meor "the State Player U-12" -who exited STAR in 1987 (Form 2) due to reasons I couldn't recall so far...
In Blue House that year 1990, as I recall it, the seat of House Captain was left blurred between Fadzli Salleh and Syazali Syaari. One thing sure was that Fadzli Salleh resided in Kuib Tengah (the sacred lair of all House Captain normally), but the fact that Syazali was part of our delegation to King's College that year, which was normally reserved to House Captains, gave impression that Syazali was the House Captain since Fadzli Salleh was already in the delegation as our rugby player. But if Syazali was the House Captain, the fact that he did not reside in Kiub Tengah Blue remains a confusing mystery for a learning historian like myself.

However, Ilon called me the other day and mentioned that according to "Perintis", Syazali was the House Captain and Fadzli Salleh was his deputy. If it was already pronounced in Perintis, I shall then take it as the gospel truth and hopefully this issue may be put to rest for the time being...

More on the Blue house later on but for now, I must tell on the Black House.

Kings of Green House 1990

"Kings of the School" was the title that every batch of fifth former, year after year, proudly called ourselves in STAR, a tradition dated back to I don't know when. No clear indication on who started it and how it came into being, but one thing clear was that the moment we set foot on STAR ground as Form 1, the Fifth Formers were Kings! And as naive Form 1 newcomers, we were bewildered by the prospect and had waited long with utmost patient to the year when finally we took over as the Kings of the School.

Thus, years after the dust had settled, I wish to put it to the records that the following boys had made it to the crown of the reputable Green House in 1990, a title we truly earned after harrowing 4 years as "Budak Form 1, 1986", "Kuli Batak 1987", "Lauk 1988" and "Honeymooners 1989". Hence here were our names as I remember them back in 1990:-

THE KINGS OF GREEN HOUSE 1990
... the Greenian Young Die-Hards!
  1. Ahmad Kamarul Hamidi b. Hamzah @ Kamyo (House Captain)
  2. Badrul Hisyam b. Abu Bakar @ Badot (now Bard)
  3. Ahmad Khairul Azlan b. Kamaruddin @ Lan "the Outlaw" Bibo
  4. Akmal Rahimi b. Abu Samah
  5. Azli b. Salleh @ Cabang nt8690
  6. Borhan b. Harsid @ Bob (now Bob Stamous)
  7. Faizalriza b. Zakaria @ Pheja Cute-Baby
  8. Jofri Annuar b. Mohammad @ Joe Pisang (now Joe Peace)
  9. Kamarulzaman b. Omar @ KMZ (prefect Block Form 1)
  10. Khairul Faizi b. Ahmad Kamil @ Lychee
  11. Muhammad Muzammir b. Mat Lazim @ Mon de Muz
  12. Norris Ismael b. Mohd @ Mat ***** (now Mat Norris)
  13. Rashidi b. Ishak @ Rasky "Blue" Stamos
  14. Saiful Asmin b. Tumin @ Machopoi
  15. Saiful Bahari b. Suhadak @ Q-pye
  16. Shahroul Nizam b. Husainey @ Tora "George Lynch" Dokken
  17. Shamsul b. Baharin @ Sam "Y" Mendung
  18. Shamsul Azyzy b. Abdul Malek @ Mr. Os
  19. Sufiyan b. Zakaria @ Piye Landak
  20. Syahrir b, Mohd Shah @ Kuching
  21. Wong Kong (the Sarawak connection)
There were actually 22 of us in the Green House, but along the years prior to 1990, we lost...
  1. Yusnizal, a Penang boy who called it quit and exited STAR in 1987 (Form 2) due to the tremendous pressure and bullying by the seniors then who called themselves the "Green Celtic Barbarians" (my gosh! what a name...).
Imagine the hell that we went through as "Kuli Batak 1987" with the likes of Mat Kurt, Gendut, McSexx, Lipet, etc during the reign of this notorious batch. Believe me, making it into 1990 was really an achievement in itself really for these Greenians. Ole!

So it was as destined in 1990, we ascended into the head seats of Green House which was then located still next to the Academic Block . That was its rightful original location before Green was tragically moved (I couldn't determine which year it happened yet and why) into its current sad location outcasted in Southern Hemisphere of STAR. The old Green block was indeed already very old when we inherited it from Greenian Kings 1989 who named themselves "Hijau Gumbira Rasa". Old as it was, it was OUR HOUSE and we loved it dearly then as much as we love it still now (the original Green block, I mean..). That year in 1990, after years of being looked-down as the dirtiest hostel, we Greenians 1990 had improved the overall facade of Green totally, with our sheer hardwork and unity no doubt, and Green was then hailed as the Cleanest House of 1990.

It was high in those days for every batch that rules the house to have a nickname (the uglier was better, as a rule). With Greenians Kings, the name as I remembered were Greenian Celtic Barbarians (1987), Hijau Merimbun Segar (1988), Hijau Gumbira Rasa (1989) and we named ourselves Greenian Young Die-Hards (1990) for reasons of our own. Thus was how we wished to remember and be remembered of.

More shall be told of our era as Kings of Green 1990, but for now, I must tell about the Kings of other Houses that were in 1990.

In the name of the batch, Starians 86-90

Dear Superfriends and all,

This blog is about the batch actually... with a sincere Greenian point of view, much in tribute to my growing years in the Green House of STAR in the '80s (from 1986 to 1990), and shall serve as a testimony to our "Houses Spirit" that ruled the alma mater during the '80s, a reminder for us on how glorious the days were then and a reference for the younger generations to ponder at.

Over the years, the batch has been known by many names. Seniors usually refer to us as "Batch '90", referring to our final year in STAR (which was also our SPM year). Another name adopted was "Fivers 1990" but somehow this failed to depict our 5 years in STAR, thus quickly forgotten. Some other batches prefer to name themselves after their batch number, say Batch 048, but this, we found rather confusing and usually leaves us wondering which years do these boys belong to really.

As for us, we prefer to introduce ourselves as "Starians 86-90". Some calls us "Batch 1986-1990" or "Batch 86-90" for short, but both are okay with us. I believe the batch name should immediately tell of our time in STAR and should instantly spark general assumptions on our background, style and upbringing. Every batch has its own unique characteristic and time was ever an important essence, or so we think has applied to ourselves.

This blog is all about us, the Starians 86-90. And I hope the readers out there would enjoy the little bit of token from the past that I shall be posting here from time to time. I am blogging merely to remember and hopefully this blog will work the same for you.
